The history of panoramic art is timeless but the first patent was issued in the late 18th century in Scotland. Since that time artists and eventually photographers have been creating them. 

Patrick covered the various formats and techniques that anyone can use to create panoramas. Technical issues leading to the best panorama photography were discussed along with various applications for building multi-image works were presented.
