Welcome to NAPfS!

The North Austin Pƒotographic Society is an inclusive, north Austin photo club dedicated to educating, inspiring and motivating its members through frequent face-to-face activities at regular club meetings. The club is open to photographers of all levels from true beginners (no camera required) to professionals. Through regular meetings, NAPƒS builds a community of active photographers, practicing their love for all types of photography. NAPƒS members share their passion and skills through presenting their work at meetings, participating in monthly competitions with live critiques, and exhibiting their work at our socials. We offer monthly hands-on workshops from area professionals, as well as national level celebrity photographers. Club activities are designed to help photographers of all levels grow through active shooting and feedback.

Our original website is https://napfs.club/. It is still active, but all new activities are handled on this site (napfs.org) as of January 15, 2020.

NOTICE: Change to Popular Voting Procedure

Visual Pursuits has changed the rank voting (i.e. popular voting) procedure. The following message was received from Visual Pursuits support:

In the past, members would drag images into order to assign Rank Voting values. This is no longer the case. Instead, there is a box where you enter a "Rank Value", much like the way a "Score" is used in judging. The "Save" button will save the new values and update the display.

Voting instructions have been updated. You may want to notify your members regarding the change.

The change was made because organizations found the drag and drop method did not work well when there were a large number of images. I hope this new system will work well for you.

A list of recent significant changes to Visual Pursuits can be displayed using your website menu "Help", "Recent Changes".

PSA Interclub Competition Entries Are Being Accepted

We are now accepting images for round 2 of the PSA Interclub competition.  The deadline for submitting images is Saturday, February 5, 2022.

We will be entering five competition divisions:

  • Open
  • Creative
  • Nature
  • Photojournalism
  • PhotoTravel

Members can enter up to two photos per division. To enter photos, go to "Competitions > Submit Images to a Competition", select the appropriate competition, and enter your photos as you would for a monthly competition.

We will not be entering any images in print divisions for this round.

The NAPfS judges will select six photos for each division. Each photo (in a division) must be by a different photographer; i.e. six different photographers per division.

To get more information about the competition, go to "Competitions > PSA Interclub Competition > Interclub Competition".

To see the NAPfS results from round 1, go to "Competitions > PSA Interclub Competition > 2021-2022 Entries and Results".

Roy Nierdieck, Master Photographer, Certified Professional Photographer, two-time IPC Gold Medalist, 2021 APPA Austin Photographer of the Year and owner of Red Dragon Photography in Lakeway, Texas. Roy has always been involved in one type of art form or another beginning with studying commercial art in college, managing a camera store and working as a photographer for Texas A&M University. Although he likes to do and will do any type of photography, nature photography is his love and passion.

Roy has photographed extensively in Montana, Colorado, Utah and Texas and his idea of a great vacation is setting up in a blind in the middle of nowhere and experiencing hours of boredom highlighted by seconds of pure frenzy and excitement getting that once in a lifetime shot.

As much as he enjoys the recognition he receives from his photos, Roy especially treasures the gratification he receives from teaching and passing on his knowledge and skills to other people.

His talk will be based on his Texas PPA workshop which is scheduled for March 15th at Pedernales Falls State Park: https://tppa.org/the-beauty-of-birds.

Gold, Silver, and Bronze metals come from the Popular Vote. These awards do not count toward the December awards.  Gold, silver, and bronze metals are 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places respectively in the popular voting.

Comments, Questions, Concerns?

Do you have questions for the NAPfS members or officers?  Do you have comments or concerns that you'd like to share with the other members?

There is a forum topic that is used for this purpose.

Go to "Organization > Discussion Forums" and select "View Topics" under "NAPfS General Comments, Questions, Concerns". You can add a new topic or add a post to an existing topic in this forum.

If you're interested in this sort of thing, even if you don't have anything to post, subscribe to the forum by clicking on the "Subscriptions" button on the right side of the "NAPfS General Comments, Questions, Concerns".

Pfotographic?

Why do we use "Pfotographic" instead of "Photographic"?  Because the club was founded in Pflugerville, Texas, which is just north of Austin.  The club history is available from the menu at "Organization > About NAPfS > Club History".
